Working Group on the effective
implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of
Action, 26 January - 6 February 2004
The Intergovernmental Working
Group was established by the Commission on Human Rights
resolution 2002/68 and approved by the Economic and Social
Council in its decision 2002/270. The Working Group held its
first session in Geneva from 21 to 31 January 2003. The Second
Session of the Intergovernmental Working Group will take place
from 26 January to 6 February 2004 at the United Nations
Office in Geneva, Conference Room XXI at the Palais des
Nations. The meeting will start at 10:30 a.m.

On 10 December
2003, Human Rights Day, the United Nations Office for the High
Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the United Nations
Joint Programme for HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the World Health
Organization (WHO) launched a colourful, interactive cartoon
booklet called
"HIV/AIDS
Stand Up for Human Rights".
The cartoon is part of a global campaign to tackle HIV/AIDS-related
stigma and discrimination and other human rights violations.

Regional
Seminar on the "Implementation of the Durban Programme
of Action: An Exchange of Ideas on How to Move Forward, Brussels,
10 - 12 December 2003
OHCHR
is organizing a regional seminar of experts for Western States,
hosted by the Government of Belgium, in Brussels from 10 to
12 December 2003. The title of the seminar is "Implementation
of the Durban Programme of Action: An Exchange of Ideas on
How to Move Forward". States, United Nations bodies and
specialized agencies, intergovernmental and regional organizations,
and national human rights institutions are invited to participate
in the regional seminar as observers. Non-governmental organizations
in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council,
non-governmental organizations accredited to the World Conference
against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related
Intolerance, and indigenous organizations accredited pursuant
to Economic and Social Council resolution 1995/32 are also
invited to participate in the seminar as observers. The deadline
for registration is 1 December 2003.
